🌊 An unforgettable week of innovation, engineering, and offshore energy exploration in Zeebruges, Oostende, and Vlissingen!
We started strong at the ABC Tower in Zeebruges, where all teams presented their offshore wind concepts to an expert jury. The range of ideas and technical creativity on display was truly impressive.
Then came the real challenge: installation day at CLUB NORTH by Icarus. Let’s just say… installing a wind turbine in real tidal conditions is not as easy as it looks on paper! 😅 Between the tools, tides, teamwork, and a few unexpected “engineering surprises,” it was tough—but an absolutely amazing experience that pushed us and brought us closer as a team.
We also had the chance to visit the Belgian offshore wind farms by boat (thank you, Captain Blue!) and see what renewable energy looks like out at sea. Standing near those turbines reminded us why we do this work. 🌬️⚡
To wrap up, we toured the SMULDERS yard in Vlissingen and Jan De Nul, where we explored large-scale construction for offshore substations and the upcoming Princess Elisabeth Island. Mind-blowing scale and ambition!
💡 Huge thanks to my amazing teammates Mahmoud Abdelhak, Theodoros Varouxis, Yining Liu, and Angel Encalada-Davila, and our supervisor Dr. Abdollah Malekjafarian for their support and dedication.
👏 Special appreciation to Dr Ir William Beuckelaers and the OffshoreWind4Kids team for organizing such a hands-on and inspiring experience.
Truly grateful to be part of this journey—learning, laughing, and building the future of offshore energy together! 💪🌍
